These wonderful things are the things we remember all though our lives.

I remember: the years of TICS when every Christmas we had a surprise Christmas video and a Surprise guest to our youth group nights, during Christmas....  It was always 1 of 2 Christmas movies, and I can only remember 1 of them, but it rotated every year, so it was never really a surprise! 1 of the movies was the Grinch... the old one, the cartoon one.... Melissa - do you remember the other one? Every year 1 of the Ottaways dressed up like Santa Clause! I remember 1 year it was Marty, the years before he was old enough to be in the youth group. I don't really remember what he did or brought. But That is my memory of the TICS Christmas's.     (TICS stands for Teens in Christ's Service)

I remember: the Christmas that my family took off on Boxing Day for Disney World! That was certainly a different Christmas than I had ever had before! We had to go to bed early that night, so that we could get up early and fly to Florida! That was my first and only time to Disney! I will never forget it! We took Aunt Steph & Aunt Bessie!! How cool is that!!!?

I remember: the year that Dana got a Calendar for Christmas and as she was pulling it out of the wrapping paper, she hit me in the nose with the calendar causing me a bloody nose all over new clothes I had just received that morning and was wearing for the 1st time!

I remember: the years at my Grandma's house for Christmas. I really hope I never forget, I was very young when we used to have all the kids over there, we were all kids then - young even Chad & Ryan were kids so I was like 3 or 4 probably. I remember 1 year my Grandparents had gone to Florida and brought us (Jacqi, Michael & I) back dresses and new clothes! I don't remember, but I have pictures to solidify the memories of making Gingerbread houses with Grandma and Michael and Jacqi.

I remember: chocolate chip muffins, yule log cookies, & crepes!

I remember: wearing my new PJ's to bed and then staying in them all day, or until I got something new to put on instead!

Another College Memory

I have a ton of college memories that are documented by pictures, and that is really why I love taking pictures so much, but the ones I like to post on here are ones that don't have pictures....

Tonight I'm going to try to think of 1 memory from each year of college that I don't have pictures to remember by, and I'm going to write the first thing that comes into my head:

Freshman Year: This one was a big part of my freshman year- but still one I don't want to forget. Every night that there were open hours (the nights that boys were allowed over) specifically on Thursdays but this also occured on the Saturday or Sunday nights tooo.... we would stuff a whole  bunch of people into Jennie's room (she was the RA - resident assistant, and she lived next door to me). We would watch a movie.... sometimes there were 16 people in that 1 little room, we'd be overflowing almost out the door sometimes..... That was so much fun and I'm soo glad we did that! It was a a major part in making us such a close floor!

After 10pm when they boys had to be off the floors, just on Thursday's we (Jennie, Nich, Me and a combo of Jessie, Magan and Rryan) went to Steak n Shake. We played Euchre until like 1am. I always mooched off Nich n Jennie's Cheesey Fries! To this day I love their cheesy fries because of these memories!

Sophomore Year: This was the year of sitting in our suite and talking! Hilary, Mel, Emily and I shared a suite which consisted of 2 dorm sized rooms attached by 1 bathroom and 1 small room that we put all our beds in. One afternoon I was sitting in the little room talking on the phone to my dad, when around the corner poked a head of a friend that I hadn't seen since the end of Freshman year! My ROOMMATE. She had I had a great friendship, but she was an interesting roommate.... in that she was barely ever there.... but she was crazy fun and I miss her muchly.  I literally SCREAMED with excitement which was loud in my dad's ear whom I had forgotten I was on the phone with. I pretty much hung up on him and just hung out with her!

Another Sophomore Year memory can be summed up in one phrase: "What's that Noise?! I'm scared.!"... ok maybe it needs more explaination.... Mel was under her desk for some reason re-plugging things in or something... and I had this wind-up flashlight... and I was winding it, which made a scary noise apparently.

Junior Year: This memory is hilarious!! Mel and I had our beds bunked above our desks, so it kind of formed a tunnel underneath.... we used a ladder to get up to our bed at night... then across from the tunnel of beds and desks, we had a coffee table, TV and couch - a living room you might call it. Well at 1 point during the year we had a nice ceramic leaf-shaped dish on the table that Mel had acquired and it usually had cookies on it! One morning the phone rang at 7am (way tooo early) and I was scrambling to get out of bed fast enough to answer it.... on my way down the ladder I realized that half of my body was still "asleep" and I literally fell off the ladder, landed on the coffee table and the ceramic leaf dish shattered!! All that for a phone call from Jaime Cade (now Jaime Hall) telling me that their power was out (and was going to be out for a while) in the apartments and she was wondering if she could spend the next night in our dorm!

Senior Year: I lived in a house with 8 girls.... we watched a lot of girly things on TV but we went through almost the entire series of Smallville, we also marathon'd Gilmore Girls and Full House!!! Great times!

(I have a tendency to write these posts in chunks, so read the 2 posts below!)

It's Dinner Time!!!

Here is a memory from my pre-teen-teen years!  My parent's made a rule that 1 night a week my brother and I had to cook! We were to find a recipe the week before, put the ingredients we would need on the grocery list and the cook it! It was a brilliant plan on their part because 1. they didn't have to make a meal 2 nights a week, and 2. now my brother and I both know how to cook a good meal.... now he can cook a meal way better than me, because well he was inspired so much by these cooking nights that he went to Sir Sandord Flemming College and majored in Culinary Management! He did several co-ops at several restaurants. He is a very good cook and we try to get him to cook as often as possible!

Well Thursday night was my night, Tuesday night was his.... the very first meal that I made on my Thursday nights was Broccoli soup with sour dough biscuits! It turned out delicious and over the years I have modified my recipe and turned it into a fabulously delicious soup! Even Nick who used to not eat soup, and wouldn't even try a small spoonful of my soup - now REQUESTS it regularly!!

(I have a tendency to write these posts in chunks, so read the 1 post below!)

Scrabble in K12

It's been a long time since I posted a memory, and I really want to post more random memories from that time that is considered "the best time of your life" which is also known as college!

I'm going to start with a memory from senior year, not because it is freshest in my mind, but because facebook just recently reminded me about the online game. There was a week or 2 when everyone in K12 (the boys house), and a bunch of my friends from home, and the girls in my house as well all played the game! It was sooo fun! You could post a word on the "board" and then leave, and wait for the next person to post hours later or days later or just a few minutes later... you could play a 2 person game or a multiple person game, so I would be playing 5 games at a time with all different people!  There was at least 1 day if not more, where there were probably 6-10 people sitting in the living room of K12 all playing the game at the same time, with each other, in more than 1 game.... it was a bit chaotic and oh so fun!

Ode to Move-In Day

I started blogging post University, so I need to blog on here about some of the memories I don't want to forget - so here are a few pictures from the Move-In Days of past.....
This is me leaving my house for the first time! This is the outfit (with Jean variations) that I wore on the first move in day and every move-in and move-out day whilst at SAU and I even wore it when I moved into the Pollak household.... I might have worn it one of the days that I moved into the house that Nick and I moved into our house...

This is the only picture that I have from move-in day Sophomore year. Even though it's actually of Mel.... and it might even be of the 2nd day.
These are pictures of my stuff moved into my room of Junior Year!!!

Mel's stuff was moved in a few days after mine... I got to move in like a week early because I was an RA. I spent the week decorating the floor and learning out to be an RA:

This is technically "move-in day" and these are pictures of my girls moving in:

Kate and her mom

Our room again with Mel's stuff... we wanted it to look homey- so that the girls would feel welcome to come in have a seat, and take a cookie off our table!

Our next door neighbours: Kaitlyn & Anna (and Anna's mom)

That guy in the hallway is the President of Admissions... on our floor!
The following pictures are from my senior year! I was the Director of Communications for the Student Government so I was documenting the move-in day Parting at the Plaza ceremony!

All those green people up front are the student leaders for the year, I was supposed to be there, but I got to be on the roof instead, filming the event!
Yep my brother was participating in the events because he had enrolled at SAU - as well as Elise (Kevin's cousin) soo I got to take this sweet picture!

This is the Parting at the Plaza part... The new students are given a piece of the blue ribbon as a souvenir and then are separated from their parents to begin their new lives as college students!

www2ndWestWives.com

I've been thinking of my girls from 2nd West - the year I was an RA. Half of them are married or engaged.... here are pictures to represent each couple! I'm soo proud of my girls - for more on my thoughts on marriage see my other blog post!

The first 3 couples are engaged..... the rest are married. Kelly is waiting to find out when Brian ships out and are getting married soon though!

Sarah is marrying this guy but I've heard we don't like him....
Carrie and James just got engaged like 3 weeks ago!
Scarlet was the first to get married - the rest are in no actual order

Mel was actually probably 2nd:

Anna just got married like a month ago!!
Candace just got married last weekend!

I got married a year and 3 months ago
Natasha got married right around the same time we did - a few weeks after probably

Emily got married last year too....
Both of these girls got married - 2 weeks apart and were each others maid's of honour. Kori never posted pictures of her wedding even though I begged. Kristy got married 2 weeks before Kori...

Kaitlyn got married in March of Nicks senior year.
These guys just got married 2 days ago! Yeah Kate!

Childhood Memories

I was chatting with my cousin Jacqi on MSN about memories. We reminisced about the times we used to build forts out of blankets and chairs at Grandma's house in the living room! We also used to turn card board boxes into sleds and slide around in them! We dragged Jacqi around in a box when she broke her leg.

Grandma used to make play dough! It was yummy!! I remember it dried fast though, but it was fun to play with while it lasted!!

We also mentioned all the Christmas Pageants we were in a church! I was in all of them! I was an Angel in "Angels Aware", I was a sheep in one when I was even younger. I have sung in the kids choir every year that there was one - my mom was the conductor! I changed signs, which changed scenes in one cantata - that year I wore a dress that my mom had made me. It was Navy Blue with Gold stars on it.

We talked about the time Terry and Markie used to babysit us. We learned about Fresh Prince of Belle Air, and we were shocked and amazed by home much they could eat! I remember Markie was babysitting us one time, and he took up to McDonalds. We ordered kids meals most likely or just nuggets, and Markie ordered a 21 piece McNugget... which now doesn't seem like many but to a 6 year old - that is a lot!!

When you think about Markie you have to note how he could find his way to a hospital in any city - He was a bit accident prone. He also makes me remember a story I've heard about him. He used to live on Oxley - a street that was perpendicular to my street. He once decided to walk to my house, but he was a bit directionally challenged... he knew he had to turn at one point, so he crossed the street, turned, then turned again and then ended up back at his house! Should I tell you he was 4 years old!!

Then we started reminiscing about Fair Haven's. I remember being scared but loving to crawl up really high onto my Grandpa's top bunk! We had some amazing times at Fair Havens. that's a billion more posts, but for now I'll write about the sand castle competitions we used to have.

We also talked about how we used to climb the trees back by the clubhouse in my back yard. I remember climbing so high that the tree's used to tip over..... Those were good times! We also used to climb the maple trees out front and the one with the swing on it!

That's all we had time for, but we had some good memories!

Getting My Driver's Licence

Now since I remenisced about my 16th birthday I feel like I should recount the driver's license experience.

The day I got my actual driver's licence, like the one that let me drive without anyone else in the car, my parent's were in Chile on a Mission's trip and they hadn't put me on their insurance yet so I couldn't even go out driving on my own. But when they did, I went crazy! I picked up Mandy - who didn't have her license yet and we went to Tim Horton! Yep, that was it! That's what I did the first time I could drive anywhere!! Lol!!

PS. I posted 3 post's today so scroll down - keep reading!

Shoes & a Dress

Hi,
This is me. I was thinking last night of something that I really wanted to do for my wedding.... I had this plan for many years.... but then when it came time to actually plan my wedding I didn't even thing of it. For years I have said I wanted to wear ballet slippers for my wedding, the kind that elegantly laces up the ankle. It just thought it was funny that I didn't think of it until last night!

That also reminded me that for about 4 years before I got engaged, I had this dress picked out as the one that was for me! Sadly, when I tried it on, it just didn't look right on me, the top didn't fit-to-flattering no matter how tight we pulled it!
I just loved the way the lace made the train, and that it wasn't soo heavy with material... I still ended up with something similar though.

Surprise 16th Birthday

I want to tell you all about my 16th Birthday.

It began on a band trip and ended with a bunch of boys locked in our clubhouse!

I'll expand: My actual birthday was in the middle of my high school band trip to the East Coast. On the trip, was my friend Carrie as well as Matt & Dave Ostropolec and as chaperone's were Meg and Pete Ostropolec. We were all over the East Coast Provinces, at one point we were in Quebec and Carrie and I found birthday streamers that said Bonne Fete (Happy Birthday) but for my actual birthday we were in Halifax, Nova Scotia. That day we weren't performing, but we were going to a dinner theatre. That was exciting - I remember the cast of the theatre singing Happy Birthday. We were on our own for the other meal of the day and Carrie and I went to Swiss Chalet. We felt soo cool, we were growing up; eating out together, in another province, getting their by ourselves! Soo cool!

But the cooler part of the day was first thing that morning, the night before Carrie and I had decorated our hotel room with the streamers, but I was "rudely" awoken by the Ostropolecs. Meg and Pete had been sent on a mission during this trip. They pulled me out of bed by my feet!! And then proceeded to give me 16 presents from my parents!! They were all small gifts, but still they told me that it had taken up like half of their suitcase! I'm so lucky to have amazing parents, and amazing friends who would sacrifice like that to make my 16th birthday special! I don't remember all of the gifts, but I do remember there was like a magazine, there was chap stick, there was probably nail polish etc. My favourite was the Frog Mug!! It had feet and little bumps on it's back! Probably the coolest mug I will ever own in my entire life.

2 Weeks after the band trip, when I wasn't expecting it at all, my parents through me a surprise 16th birthday party! My whole youth group was invited as well as close family members! I remember I worked that Friday night at Gospel Text until 9pm. Dad picked me up from work and on the way home, I innocently asked if anyone was at our house... you see often Steph would stop over randomly, or other random family members... I was feeling like I wanted some company that night... well Dad just said, I'm not sure... I believed him! Since we live in front of a park, everyone had parked in the parks lot so I didn't see their cars. When I opened the garage door, there was Kerry McCord crouched down with a camera ready to take a picture! I was not expecting that! I slammed the garage door and hid in the garage... Someone, I think Mandy came and got me out! I was shocked!!! The funny thing was my brother was showing all the guys, just before I got there, that out clubhouse in the backyard had an upstairs... they didn't believe him so he herded them inside and then locked them in there.... so I didn't even know there were guys at the party until a few minutes after all the girls had yelled surprise!

There were a lot of people there, there were lots of gifts, there was lots of good food! I should find pictures and upload them sometime to this post, because I have an album of them somewhere. The one thing I remember was that the Millard boys had given me a Happy Mother's day card... instead of a happy birthday card! I also remember that there were purple, green and I think turquoise balloons? It was a great night, and a great memory.

DQ & A Snowball Fight

My yearly birthday date with Earl was a bit different this year, but it makes me think of 2 stories I want to remember about my life.

1. Mr. Earl Brinkman and I have been going to DQ every May for our birthdays since I was like 8 or something..... It's been a long time. He would always come pick me up, and most years Kathy would meet us there too - since all three of us had the same birthday! May 3rd!!!! How random right? This guy is like 50 years older than me, a deacon in our church and I really have no other connection with the man other than our birthday. I think it was my idea.... I don't really remember.... (if anyone does remember how that all went down please let me know) He always orders the same thing - a Skor Blizzard and I usually order the specialty!! Sometimes it is a hot fudge brownie sundae, or its a mocha frappe blizzard.... I never know what I want to get!

We always talk and talk and talk... even though a whole year goes by and we don't really talk except for a hug on Sundays whenever I come home for a visit - we always have lots to talk about... I think I usually do most of the talking... some years I've even cried - we never run out of things to talk about.

My 17th birthday I picked him up for the first time - that was a fun birthday! My 22nd birthday, I got dropped off at DQ by my boyfriend, who left there and went to ask my dad if he could marry me, then a couple hours later, asked me if he could marry me. This year, my birthday weekend I was only home for a day and a half and was at a wedding for most of it, so instead of DQ I invited him and his wife over for lunch after church!

Which leads me to point 2...

2. We were talking about random family vacations and one of the memories I don't want to forget is the time we were motor homin' it in BC in June. We stopped at a toll road booth and decided to get out and stretch... as I got out of the back door my mom had gotten out of the drivers seat and quickly made a snowball and ran to the back to ambush us as we got out of the back!!! How fun right? Sooo spontaneous! In June - a snowball fight!! Gotta love the Rocky Mountains!!!

Our First Kiss

I pray I’ll never forget our first Kiss. On our first Valentine’s Day, Nick got cheap tickets to see the Piston’s play the Spurs. We went with Chris & Kd, and Adam & Cheryl. That night I got car sick so we pulled over to get a drink so I could take drugs and then we got stuck in the snow. The whole ride home, we cuddled really close in the back seat of Chris’s car and once we got back to campus, Nick walked me to the door of U-hall. We stood there in the cold for a few minutes really close and then we both knew it was coming; he leaned in and kissed her. It was the perfect first kiss. His lips were the softest, fullest most beautiful thing I’ve ever kissed. We were both ready and it was so right! It was instantly warm.

Favourite Wedding Moments

In our first “legal ceremony”

i. The clock on the mantel struck 6 o’clock at the end of the prayer!
ii. Having our 2 best friends drive all the way just to sign the paper.
iii. Gavin asking “Can we sit in Lazy boys at the next wedding?”

At our May 23drd wedding celebration
c. Memorable:
i. 2 of the most memorable moments involved the boys:
ii. They thought that my decorations weren’t complete without putting a Frisbee on the stage, which was pointed out by Pastor Mark!
iii. When Mark asked for the ring, Ross pulled out a candy Red Ring Pop!!
iv. I loved that my mom played the piano at my wedding – it wouldn’t have been right without her playing!
v. Mom and Dad woke me up by singing “Going to the Chapel”
vi. Aunt Steph read beautifully.
vii. Dad and I taking our time getting to the church and stopping in at Gospel Text.
viii. Mel singing How Beautiful
ix. Uncle Paul said the sweetest thing to Nick: “I haven’t gotten a chance to get to know you well, but from what I’ve seen and heard, I know Grandma would have loved you”.
x. My flowers made my Mikyla
xi. Our Cake!!!
xii. Hailey Running down the aisle after Nick and I.
xiii. The message Mark gave spoke about each of us being God’s masterpiece which I thought was awesome since that is the song my mom used to sing to me (Masterpiece – Sandi Patti).
d. My Favourite part: it’s not possible to have a favourite part when you are enjoying every moment!

The Proposal

What was your proposal like? Was it a surprise?

a. We had talked about getting married and I had told him what I liked in rings so I knew it was coming. I had pretty much figured out that he had bought the ring over Spring Break and from then on was constantly analyzing every situation for “proposal potential”. I had told him he had to ask my dad first, and knew that that hadn’t happened so until it did he wasn’t allowed to propose. By the time we’d made it to the weekend of my birthday I was sooo hoping he would ask my dad when we went home, and then that he would ask me. I had no idea that he asked my dad that night while I was out on a date with another man (Nick actually dropped me off for a Birthday date with Earl-my birthday buddy). He had plans to go see a movie with my brother, but instead went to the church, found my dad and asked him. My dad only asked Nick 2 questions. Do you love God? and Have you been baptized?... my dad says that’s all that matters.

b. When I got home from my date, I expected Nick to be gone to the movies, but my dad told me he was downstairs working on homework and that he had come to talk to him at the church. (he probably shouldn’t have told me that… but I knew it had to have happened that night at some point if Nick was going to propose on my birthday – which I soooo hoped he would).

c. We had decided that Nick was going to work on homework and then we would go for a walk at Midnight. So close to midnight I IM’d him (because he was in the basement) and asked if we were still planning on going for a walk….. he said Heck Yes. I got sooo excited at that moment. So about 12:02 we said goodnight to my dad and went for a walk. We took a Frisbee, and played a little of that, we played on the kids jungle gyms. I went down a very wet slide, we climbed a short plastic rock climbing wall, we held hands, he wished me a happy birthday and kissed me. We ended up in the parking lot of a church because there was more light there, and we played Frisbee there. I threw the Frisbee and it didn’t go anywhere near him, so we both ran to get it. He got there first and I tackled him. In that moment I didn’t realize he was about to propose, but he put me in front of him, while on one knee he asked me if I would marry him. I said yes of course. I wanted to whisper it in his ear –like we whisper I love you in each others’ ears – because I thought that would be unique – but I just couldn’t wait to get there to say yes. So I just said it!

d. He had the ring in the little purple box, and I was struggling between looking into his gorgeous eyes and stealing a look at the ring. He put it on my finger. The whole moment seemed so real and so wonderful. I wouldn’t have traded it for the world.

e. We took the longest time to walk the few minutes home than we ever will again. We stopped to talk along the way; I sat on an air conditioning box for a while as we talked. We paused to share a kiss or two. I don’t even remember what we talked about the whole night to be honest – I’m sure it was all very romantic… all I knew was I was looking at the man I was going to marry.
f. PS. I got goose bumps all over while writing this and recalling it all!!!

A college memory

I realized that I started blogging after I graduated so all of my college memories haven't been blogged.

This memory is fresh in my memory because I had to call Mel a couple weeks ago to have her refresh my memory. Magan, Mel and I were hyper one night, ridiculous you might say! We measured all of our extremities, compared them... I don't know why.... but we did. I think it probably started because Magan didn't believe that her and I were like the same size... So we measured our arms, legs, breast size, waist size etc..... I have the paper with the results on it still.... it'll be in my school scrapbook if you ever what to see it.... although I don't know why you would ever want to see it... unless I fatten up and you don't believe that I was ever sooo darn skinnny.

A Sweet Man, a couple memories!

I barely remember this memory because I was sooo young, but I have to write about it. I was Areal for Halloween one year and for some reason was at church dressed like that. I had met Orv Gleason in the hallway by the nursery upstairs. He made some smart comment about my red hair. I will never forget about him him. He is just the sweetest old man. He lost his wife too soon.

Another fun memory I have of him is from my Aunt Bessie's 60th birthday. We hosted a huge surprise birthday for her. Themed. It was a progressive dinner, each house served a part of the meal based on a different country. The food was from the country, the decorations, the music etc, We had mexican (nacho appitizers), greek (salad), france (fancy cheese and crackers), and Italy (main course, pasta). Anyways, since my family was hosting the main course, we had the Pope come and pray for the meal. Orv - was that Pope. We even snuck his wife in the back door so she could see everyones reactions. My dad made the costume and it looked so real!

How we told other people about our engagement!

How we told other people the news of our engagement:

a. We got back to the house and I went upstairs to tell my parents who were sound asleep, Nick was headed to bed because he was tired. I got up there and they were snoring and sooo asleep I whispered “Mom, Dad” but I couldn’t bare wake them up. (How does one wake up someone gently from sleep?) So I left a note for whoever was the first one awake to come wake me up. Aunt Bessie was the first awake and woke me up at 7ish am. I waited until I heard my mom’s voice to leave my room and told her Nick already gave me my birthday present. I was wearing his overly large Kutless sweatshirt with the sleeves covering my entire hands. My mom grabbed my hand looked at my finger –covered it from Bessie’s view and yanked me upstairs to where my father was still asleep. The three of us sat on their bed as I told them how it happened and how I tried to wake them up, but couldn’t bare to wake them.

b. After talking to my parents for probably 30-45 mins, I went down to show poor aunt Bessie. She loved it and was very excited.

c. When we got back from our little walk I called Mel’s cell phone 7 times, but never got ahold of her. Since I was awake so early, I called her about 4 more times before she finally saw all the missed calls and called me back. I told her and she was very excited. I told her not to tell all the other girls in the house though so she had to keep a huge secret for a day and a half!

d. Then I called Carrie and asked her if I could come over. It was 8:30 in the morning and she thought that was a bit ridiculous and maybe I could come over when her parents got up. On my way over there I stopped in at Earl’s to show him. He wasn’t home, but as his wife was opening the door he pulled in the driveway. I ran to the car and had my hand in front of his window before he even had a chance to turn the car off. (The night before I had gone for ice cream and told him I had hoped he would propose soon, that morning he said WOW I didn’t think it would be that soon!!) Carrie had no idea why I wanted to come over, so I showed up at her house and showed her my hand. She was very excited. I showed Linda her step mom too.

e. From there I headed back home for about noon when Nick decided to wake up. We told my brother at that point. I think I simply just told Michael that Nick asked me to marry him and I said yes – to which he replied congratulations.

f. Mandy showed up at my house to give me Red Gerber Daisys for my birthday. As she was standing in the door I shoved my hand right in her face and she was like “For real???” I said yep!!!! Again very exciting… Nick was standing in the background, not quite sure what to do, I stepped back and he came over, put his arm around me and she said congrats to him too. Her mom was out in the car so I ran out to show her too.

g. Nick got ready and then we headed to Gospel Text. I was looking forward to this very much because for the last several times I had gone in to visit – they asked if I was engaged. So Nick and I walked in hand in hand, with my left hand out in the open for them to see. Jane came to the door and was talking the pleasantries, a few minutes in her eyes slipped quickly down to my hand where she finally saw it. It was killing me!!! So my hand now up with Jane looking it, Helen and Penny who were by the counter realized Jane was looking at my hand and squealed and came over to look too! I thought Helen was going to cry! Chris came over to see it too. Linda was on lunch so I asked Nick if we could drive down the street to her apartment. We went there, she was very surprised. We talked at the door and then I finally reminded her it was my birthday and showed her my present.

h. We went to Walmart to pick out a shirt for Nick to wear to church the next day, and then home for Mom and Dad and the 2 of us to head over to Stephs. We got there and mom and dad buzzed up – not letting on that Nick and I were there too. We walked down the hall, Nick holding my left hand to keep it a secret because we had a plan for this one. She kindof eyed our hands and had a quizzical look in her eye but asked nothing. We sat down on her couch and I worked up the courage to start this silly story about how the night before dad pulled out a record with a song on it. The word to the song went something like this: Daddy, I met a boy named Ray and he asked if I could come out and play….. Daddy I met a boy named (I changed it to Nick for the purpose of the story) Nick, and he asked if I would marry him and I said yes. She listened intently then grabbed my hand and said “I wondered when you two walked down the hall looking all sneaky.” While there I called both Mark and Terry leaving messages for both.

i. Helen brought over Pink Gerber Daisies as a congratulation for Nick and I.

j. That night we had planned to have an Austin family birthday party Michael and I as well as Dana’s new boyfriend (his birthday was in April) so that she would have an excuse to bring him home to meet the family. So once everyone where there, my mom went around the circle and introduced everyone to Michael. When she got to me she said this is Brittney and this is Nick her fiancĂ©!! It went right over there head, so she did it again this time very much exaggerating when she got to us!!!! Then they realized and the congrats came again!!

k. The last most significant moment was when I showed up to Jaspreets house before all the girls were to hang out for Mandy’s Bachelorette/my birthday party/my predicted engagement party. I hid my hand till all of the girls were there, and once they were I used it as I would normally – expecting someone to look or see it. I even opened a birthday gift using that hand up in the air as much as possible for them all to see. Finally after about 15 minutes we were about ready to go, when I put my hand in Karen’s face, she thought I was about to give her a high five then she saw the ring. None of them could believe it – yet were all like “we predicted this was going to happen how did we forget?” It was very funny!!!!

l. The next morning at church we got there only a few minutes before the service began but still everyone in the lobby knew with in seconds of us walking in the door. I can’t remember it happened so fast, someone, I want to guess an Ancheta looked and saw, then screamed!! Then everyone was looking, my hand was the center of attention and I was on the outside of the circle. The squealing was so loud it caused Pastor Andrew to come out of his office to see what was going on. The Ostropolec family was scattered throughout the foyer, and I think Matt and Amy saw it first, and as I was hugging someone else, Meg had heard the screaming from the sanctuary and came quickly to the foyer. I held my hand out as I was hugging the person (sad I don’t even remember who) for her to see. She was one of the people I was most excited to show the ring too. So by the time the service started and the announcement was made most people already knew!! They still were very excited and clapped as we stood up even if Pastor Marc goofed up when he asked when the date was going to be for the wedding – which would be the first of many engagements for our church.

m. Nick called his parents to let them know sometime on Saturday I think, but they already knew he was going to proposed, he was just calling to let them know I said yes.
n. I got back to school and Nick I and went to my house first. Mel met us at the door and grabbed my hand and congratulated me in person with a big huge hug. (She had found out from the other girls in the house that I was hoping he would propose that weekend – somehow I thought she knew that was my hope, but she didn’t. She was really mad at first because I had asked/wanted her and Kevin to come home with us that weekend so she would be there for it, but they decided to come before she knew my hopes). We told the rest of the girls and then headed over to Nicks house.

o. The only person home was Kevin, and we showed him and asked if Mel had told him. She had not, we were all impressed and I was sooo proud!

p. After that I went home and stopped in to see Anna Wilkinson, she was outside taking pictures of Gainey. She asked me how my birthday was and I said “it was this good” and showed her my hand. I literally thought she was going to faint. She stopped breathing and took a step backwards. It was funny and a great reaction. Probably my favourite.

q. The 2 of us headed up to my old floor to tell those girls. We got to Kaitlin McCarrells room who had also gotten engaged that weekend about 5 hours before me, and asked if I could see her ring. She said she heard I’d gotten engaged too, and I said yes and showed her my ring. Her reply was; “Wait, really I was making that up!!!! It was hilarious.

r. In the middle of the night after Mel and Kevin’s wedding we decided to sleep at Nicks house instead of driving all the way back to Michigan, and at about 1:30 am his parents met us in the kitchen and looked at the ring on my hand for the first time.

Telling friends that I had gotten engaged!

So I'm just thinking about the fact that I'm going to a wedding tomorrow of a couple who have been together since Kindergarten. And somehow that made me think of when Nikki, the bride found out that I was engaged! It was a crazy exciting moment!

Here's the low down on that:

Embarrassing #2

Have you ever ran out of gas?

Nope -
my mom did once about 10 feet from the pumps...
but in the middle of an intersection. I was really young...
it was right after evening church service.

an Embarrassing Memory

This is one memory that I don't think I'll ever forget because it is one of my most embarrassing memories.... however since I went to the Chiropractor today, I feel like its a great one to share:

I once was at the chiropractors and when the Doc. went to crack my back, a burst of air from the lower regions of my torso area...... it was loud and it was embarrasing.

Go ahead, Laugh.

Going Down in History

This memory goes down in history!

Do you already know what it is?

Yes its the time that my mother forgot me, when setting the table for Thanksgiving! Yes believe it or not! It was the first Thanksgiving home from College, so yes, I had been gone for about 2 months. My mom counted each family, Kathy had 4, then there was the Grandma/Ron/Bessie combo and then she said our family had 3. Well our family had 4!!!!!!! Now to be honest she actually counted more than once. We all sat down to eat only to find we were one chair and one place setting short.

That's it.

Baking Everywhere!

One memory I hope I never forget is the time I was baking in the kitchen at home and turned on the kitchenaid toooo fast with powders in the bowl.... well if you bake, you know what happened.... there was flour everywhere!!! The memory isn't quite clear because I think Aunt Bessie was there with me, but I also have a memory with my mom too.... did I do it more than once, or did one of them do it with me there to witness it?

A dream

Today I remembered a re-occurring dream I used to have as a kid....

It had something to do with a parachute, and it was a scary dream, it had something to do with angles. Thats all I remember.

Another dream that I used to have all the time, which I have discussed at legth with Melanie (shoot I almost did it again - called her Melanie Fish) Eccles, because she had the same dream so it must mean something. The dream went like this: I was in a white room, not really a room but everything, my complete surroundings. Sometimes the dream would be up close, and other times it would seem really far away. So what is the dream you are wondering? Screaming... loud high pitched screaming.... it was an aweful dream!

My Memories

Lately I have been having flash backs of memories I never want to forget. Since I'm blogging about my life now, I have a record of the things that are important happening now, but there are so many memories from the previous 22 years that I don't want to go down in history. I want them to live on. So most of these posts will be short, and really only for my benefit and those who are really close to me.

My BFF, writes out a memory in detail once a week in her blog, but I feel like I have too many so I'm making my own blog specifically for those precious or not so precious times.

If you read this, I hope you enjoy.... maybe it will inspire you to write down your own memories too.
